About

TRUST, BUT VERIFY

BIO:

Hi There, My name is Scott Tye. I am a NRVIA Certified RV Inspector and Technician. Over my career I had a business for 25 years, spent 6 year inspecting homes for insurance companies. Became a commercially rated pilot and flew for a aerial survey company.

My experience as a pilot taught me the most about preventive maintenance and checklists. As the Pilot in Command you are responsible for the operation of the aircraft you fly. Inspections are the key to avoid future unwanted surprises.

The reason aircraft are so expensive is that every piece, right down to the nuts and bolts must be FAA certified. RV's lack a certifying agency.

Owning RV will mean hundreds of inspections

  • Pre-Purchase Inspection

  • Pre & Post Trip Inspection

  • Rest Stop Walk Around Inspection

  • Post Maintenance Inspection

If you want to get familiar with your RV quickly. Hire an RV Inspector to give you a report and educate you about all the issues, major & minor.

====== INSPECTING AN RV BEFORE YOU BUY IT ======

It is important to get your own independent inspection on any RV you are thinking of purchasing regardless of price. Especially NEW RV's.

If you forgo the inspection on a NEW RV, you will be missing out of the opportunity for the dealership to correct any flaws before you sign on the line. This will save you time and money. They are obligated to deliver the unit in NEW condition. This inspection will reveal what parts are not in new condition. If you buy first, then you will have to wait your turn to get warranty work done.

Pre-Owned RV's also need an independent inspection. In addition to any manufacturers defects there will be wear and tear issues. I wouldn't bother negotiating a price before the inspection. The final report will give you a huge amount of leverage in the final negotiation.

====== INSPECTING YOUR RV BEFORE YOU SELL IT ======

This is not very common right now, but I believe it will be more so in the future.

Selling your RV has changed over the years. With most RV buyers getting a thorough inspection before they buy, it puts the sellers at a disadvantage. Change the dynamic and get your RV inspected before you sell it. Here are the reasons why.

  • 80%-90% of the issues flagged on an inspection report are minor and are could probably be repaired easily

  • Set your RV apart from all the others like it for sale. A buyer will see that you have already done your due diligence and disclosed all issues. Your could provide your Independent Certified RV Inspection Report to a prospective buyer upon request.
