Air Safe Hitch VII
Allen Wilkens and I installed the Air Safe Hitch at the region 9 Rally at Margaritaville in Crystal Beach, Tx. 2021 30’ International towed by a 2017 Ford F250 Diesel with a factory rear lift. After my discussion with you at the Rally Brad, I decided to Tow the 90 miles home without the Bars on the Equalizer Hitch. Good decision! The ride was soft and the truck tracked very well. No indication of sway or rear end swing, to my surprise. The difference was noticeable immediately when I rolled though a paved dip in the in the road. I felt the dip in the front and rear of the truck, but hardly noticeable after that. Very little feedback from the trailer. I kept looking at the trailer movement as we proceeded to see the trailer moving independently of the truck when we crossed uneven pavement and road dips. This was a small test, but I now understand the value of breaking the direct tie between the Truck Frame and the Trailer Frame by using, essentially, shock absorbers to reduce the influence on the trailer from the hard riding F250. I also believe not using the bars is a good first test. I measured the height of the truck wheel wells, front vs back….41 1/4 “ on both. I think the factory rear lift is helpful here. More to come, as I plan to continue this test in May, on our next trip. By the way, in spite of the slight bulge in the front panel that runs parallel to the battery box, we still have about a 1/2’ clearance in the battery box lid. We are hopeful that the Air Safe Hitch will perform well enough to forestall a front end separation issue. Maybe we caught it early enough, we will see. Terry and I are very appreciative of your presentation at the Rally on this subject and the recommendation of the Air Safe Hitch. If you have any questions about this info, or need clarification, please reach out to us. We would be happy to provide any information that will help you or another Airstreamer. Many thanks, Terry and John Fuselier
